Northstar Clean Technologies Inc. (TSXV: ROOF, OTCQB: ROOOF) announced it has secured a five-year contract with the City of Calgary for the receipt and reprocessing of the city's asphalt shingles at Northstar's Calgary facility.

The contract will commence in April 2026, coinciding with Calgary's relaunch of its Shingles Recycling Program. Under the agreement, Northstar will receive all asphalt shingles collected at the city's Spy Hill, East Calgary, and Shepard Waste Management Facilities for reprocessing.

Volume targets and tipping fees under the contract remain commercially confidential, according to the press release. The company stated this contract adds to existing supply agreements with IKO Industries Ltd and Ecco Recycling & Energy Corporation to provide feedstock to its Calgary facility.

"With supply under the Contract, together with supply from IKO and Ecco, we have secured more feedstock than required for the Facility to operate on a single shift basis and process 40,000 tonnes per year," said Aidan Mills, President & CEO of Northstar.

Northstar also announced the opening of its Calgary facility, which the company describes as one of the first commercial asphalt shingle recovery and reprocessing facilities in North America. Located in Rocky View County outside Calgary, the facility can process up to 80,000 tonnes of discarded shingles annually on a two-shift basis.

The facility uses Northstar's patented Bitumen Extraction & Separation Technology to recover liquid asphalt, aggregate, fiber and limestone for reuse in paving, roofing and construction materials. The company stated the facility will employ up to 30 full-time local staff.

The project received support totaling more than $7.2 million from Emissions Reduction Alberta and Alberta Innovates, previously announced in July 2023.
