Nextpower (Nasdaq: NXT) has received U.S. patent number 12,712,292 from the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, covering its NX PowerMerge electrical balance of systems (eBOS) solution used in utility-scale solar power plants.
The company also announced a project award from BUILD Renewables that brings its NX PowerMerge backlog to over 2 gigawatts (GW).
NX PowerMerge is designed for DC collection systems in utility-scale solar plants, where power from multiple solar panel strings connects to larger trunk conductors across thousands of locations. The product includes a single trunk cable connection point and an installation tool that verifies pressure during installation. The connector body is described as universal across trunk cable sizes.
"BUILD Renewables is excited to be partnering with Nextpower on their NX PowerMerge eBOS product, which provides exemplary safety, installation velocity, and performance features," said Craig Sandeen, president and CEO of BUILD Renewables.
Ryan Schofield, vice president of electrical eBOS at Nextpower, said the patent recognizes design innovations in the product, adding that demand exceeding 2 GW reflects customer validation.
Nextpower's eBOS portfolio includes both trunk bus and combiner box DC collection methods. According to the company's press release, offering both architectures allows utility-scale solar owners, developers, and engineering, procurement, and construction teams to select a DC collection approach for each project.
