Netflix stock falls after Elon Musk urges followers to cancel service

Investing.com -- Netflix (NASDAQ: NFLX) stock fell 2% Wednesday morning after billionaire entrepreneur Elon Musk called on his followers to cancel their subscriptions to the streaming service.

"Cancel Netflix for the health of your kids," Musk wrote on his social media platform X, responding to a post that accused the company of promoting a transgender agenda. The Tesla CEO, who has 226 million followers on the platform, also amplified several posts claiming a growing trend of Netflix cancellations.

Musk specifically criticized the animated series "Dead End: Paranormal Park," which he claimed was "pushing trans ideology" to children. In a separate post, he wrote "this is not ok" in response to a user who pointed out that the show is advertised for viewers as young as seven years old.

The streaming giant has faced criticism from conservative voices in recent years over content choices, though the company has generally maintained that it offers programming for diverse audiences.
