NEC partners with Anthropic to develop enterprise AI solutions in Japan
NEC Corporation (TSE: 6701) announced a strategic collaboration with Anthropic PBC to develop AI solutions for Japanese enterprises. The partnership makes NEC the first Japan-based global partner of Anthropic.
The companies will jointly develop secure industry-specific AI solutions for the Japanese market, leveraging Claude Cowork, an AI agent for desktop use. Initial initiatives will target the financial, manufacturing, and local government sectors, combining customer expertise with operational knowledge.
NEC plans to integrate Claude into its NEC BluStellar Scenario framework, which supports the company's value creation model. The deployment will extend across the NEC Group globally, reaching approximately 30,000 employees worldwide as part of building what the company describes as one of Japan's largest AI-native engineer teams.
The collaboration includes three main components: joint development of industry-specific AI solutions for sectors requiring high security and compliance standards, utilization of Claude within NEC BluStellar Scenario beginning with data-driven management and customer experience transformation scenarios, and large-scale deployment of Claude across NEC Group operations.
In cybersecurity, NEC will incorporate Anthropic's AI technology into its Security Operations Center services to address cyber threats for companies in Japan and globally. The partnership will enhance NEC's next-generation cybersecurity service offerings.
"We are deeply honored to collaborate with NEC, one of Japan's leading technology companies," said Paul Smith, Chief Commercial Officer of Anthropic. "By bringing together the strengths of both companies, we are dedicated to delivering safe and secure AI agents that Japanese enterprises can adopt with full confidence."
NEC Executive Officer and COO Toshifumi Yoshizaki stated the partnership enables the company to maximize AI potential in the Japanese market and strengthen capabilities in AI implementation through large-scale deployments and collaboration.
