Investing.com -- Digital camera shipments declined 14.6% year-over-year in June 2026, according to Camera Imaging Products Association statistics cited by Morgan Stanley.
Shipment value decreased 3.0% during the same period. The investment bank noted that overseas exports showed weakness due to Middle East impact and ongoing shipment declines in China, described as a key demand driver.
Both built-in lens and interchangeable-lens cameras saw shipment declines, with mirrorless cameras recording a steeper drop. Mirrorless camera shipments fell 19.4% year-over-year, while built-in lens cameras decreased 5.8% and interchangeable lens cameras dropped 17.6%.
Regional performance varied widely. Japan saw shipments increase 14.6%, while Asia rose 34.9%. Europe recorded a 33.2% decline, Americas fell 18.1%, and China decreased 26.0%.
Average selling prices increased 13.5% year-over-year, with built-in lens cameras up 8.7% and interchangeable lens cameras rising 16.3%. Morgan Stanley suggested these price increases may have reduced end demand.
Interchangeable lens shipment volume fell 12.8% year-over-year in June, while shipment value declined 0.5%.
Canon reported a 10% year-over-year decline in camera unit sales in the second quarter covering April through June and reduced its full-year unit sales target, according to the report.
