Metallium receives million-dollar defense grant for critical metal recovery

Metallium Limited (ASX: MTM, OTCQX: MTMCF) announced its U.S. affiliate Flash Metals Texas has received a Phase II Small Business Innovation Research contract worth approximately $1 million from the U.S. Department of Defense through the Defense Logistics Agency.

The 12-month contract funds development of technology to extract gallium and germanium from electronic waste streams using the company's Flash Joule Heating technology. The award follows completion of Phase I, where Flash Metals Texas demonstrated recovery of gallium from semiconductor and electronic waste.

Phase II work will expand to include both gallium and germanium extraction, with activities conducted at the company's Texas Technology Campus. The project aims to achieve process readiness suitable for commercial deployment beyond pilot demonstration.

"This new contract sets us apart and validates our approach and our commitment to supporting national security priorities," said Steve Regiel, president of U.S. operations for Metallium and Flash Metals Texas.

The technology extracts gallium and germanium alongside other valuable metals including gold, silver, tin, palladium and copper from electronic waste. Both gallium and germanium are designated by the U.S. government as critical materials for defense systems, semiconductors and communications technologies.

The timeline integrates with operational development of Metallium's Gator Point Technology Campus in Chambers County, Texas. Upon completion, Flash Metals Texas expects to be positioned for Phase III award consideration and broader commercial deployment of the technology.
