Marvell Technology Inc. (NASDAQ: MRVL) announced that Microsoft has expanded its cloud-based security offerings powered by Marvell LiquidSecurity hardware security modules to customers in Europe. The expansion adds to existing services in Asia and North America.
The European expansion follows two new certifications awarded to Marvell for LiquidSecurity this year. The company obtained certifications under eIDAS (electronic IDentification, Authentication and trust Services) and Common Criteria EAL4+, two security frameworks established by European authorities.
The LiquidSecurity HSMs power Microsoft Azure's Key Vault, Azure Key Vault Managed HSM and Cloud HSM services. These services can be used for certifying cross-border contracts, verifying identification documents and handling other transactions.
"We congratulate Marvell on achieving eIDAS and CC EAL4+ certification of its LiquidSecurity HSMs, which power our Azure Key Vault, Azure Key Vault Managed HSM and Cloud HSM services," said Soumya Subramanian, vice president of Cloud Security Engineering at Microsoft Azure.
Marvell's LiquidSecurity HSMs are PCIe-based devices powered by Marvell OCTEON data processing units and designed for multi-tenant cloud environments. A single LiquidSecurity 2 HSM adapter can manage up to 1 million encryption keys and process more than 1 million operations per second, according to the company.
Traditional HSMs have been packaged as server appliances running standard microprocessors and managed directly by users on their premises. The cloud-based model allows users to subscribe to HSM services rather than manage hardware directly.
