Marqeta Inc. (NASDAQ: MQ) announced it is working with Klarna to expand the Klarna Card into 15 new European markets. The expansion builds on the card's U.S. launch in June 2025 and uses Visa's Flexible Credential technology.
The Klarna Card enables consumers to choose between paying immediately or using pay-later options through a single debit card. The card is rolling out in the UK, Denmark, Germany, Norway and Poland, and is available in Austria, Belgium, Finland, France, Ireland, Italy, the Netherlands, Portugal, Spain, Sweden, and the U.S.
Through Marqeta's platform, Klarna can accelerate time-to-market and scale across multiple countries with one integration. Marqeta became the first issuer processor in the U.S. certified for Visa Flexible Credential in July 2024.
"At Klarna, we believe everyday spending should be simple, flexible, and fair," said David Sandström, Chief Marketing Officer at Klarna. "Together with Marqeta and Visa, we're redefining how people pay across Europe, combining the simplicity of debit with the power of pay-later options in one seamless experience."
Rahul Shah, Chief Product and Engineering Officer at Marqeta, said the rollout across 15 new markets demonstrates the power of Marqeta's platform to advance innovation at scale.
Marqeta processed nearly $300 billion in annual payments volume in 2024 and is certified to operate in more than 40 countries worldwide. Klarna has over 111 million global active users and processes 2.9 million transactions per day.
