Investing.com -- MarineMax Inc. shares jumped more than 34% to around $47.80 in pre-market trading Monday following a Reuters report that Blackstone-owned Safe Harbor Marinas is close to acquiring the company for $1.5 billion including debt.
The stock closed at $35.68 on Friday.
Safe Harbor Marinas, owned by Blackstone Infrastructure and described as the world's largest owner and operator of marinas, is set to pay approximately $53 per share in cash for MarineMax, the report said citing people familiar with the matter. This values the company's equity at $1.17 billion.
The agreement would conclude a months-long competition to acquire the recreational yacht retailer, which operates 65 marinas and storage locations and 70 dealerships, primarily in the United States, serving wealthy customers.
Activist investor Donerail and private equity firm Centerbridge were also among the final-round bidders for MarineMax.
A deal announcement could come as soon as this week if no last-minute complications arise, the report added.
