MainStreet Bancshares, Inc. (NASDAQ: MNSB) announced that Chief Financial Officer Thomas J. Chmelik will retire from his position on December 31, 2025. Chmelik will continue serving as Senior Executive Vice President and Secretary of both the bank and company through December 31, 2027.
Alex Vari, currently CFO and Executive Vice President of MainStreet Bank, will assume the company CFO role following Chmelik's retirement. Vari holds a CPA designation and has been preparing for the transition by leading financial preparation and public disclosures while interacting with the investor community.
Chmelik co-founded MainStreet Bank when it opened in May 2004. During his banking career, he served as CFO at four community banks in the Washington, DC market and participated in a World Bank initiative to restructure the National Bank of Commerce in Tanzania, Africa.
The executive noted that bank charters declined by almost 43% over the past 21 years, from 7,767 at the beginning of 2004. Chmelik plans to remain on both the company and bank boards while staying engaged with the leadership team in a reduced capacity.
MainStreet Bancshares operates as a financial holding company for MainStreet Bank, a business-focused community bank headquartered in Fairfax, Virginia. The bank maintains six full-service financial centers across Virginia and Washington, D.C., and trades on the Nasdaq Capital Market as part of the Russell 2000 index.
