According to a recent research note, Lynx maintains aggressive price targets of $1,325 for Micron and $2,450 for SanDisk, representing potential upside of 32.6% and 48.5% from their current respective prices of $999 and $1,650.
From "Uninvestable" Chaos to a Stealth Rally
The bullish call is grounded in a volatility framework Rajkumar tracked leading into Micron’s late-June earnings report. Ahead of that release, Lynx cautioned that extreme daily swings in May and June—running nearly double historical averages—reflected speculative hype rather than durable strength.
"Even though the fundamentals remained strong... the high-volatility regime made the stock uninvestable," Rajkumar wrote. That warning proved prescient: after a tumultuous stretch where 7% to 8% daily volatility delivered a 19% surge in June followed by a 20% plunge in July, the stock hit a low point nearly 30% off its peaks.
August brought a dramatic shift in market behavior. As daily volatility settled to 3.5%, Micron quietly mounted a 16% stealth rally, erasing most of the panic-driven July sell-off without the unstable fanfare of another high-volatility surge. Lynx views this quiet, steady accumulation as a structurally healthier setup for a sustainable breakout.
Macro Tailwinds and Upcoming Catalysts
This constructive price action is backed by improving fundamentals across the memory market. Tightening DRAM and NAND spot prices, driven by insatiable High-Bandwidth Memory (HBM) demand for AI accelerators, have kept supply constrained even as consumer end-markets stabilize. Because Micron serves as the primary liquid barometer for the U.S. memory cycle, its stabilization bodes well for peers like SanDisk, Western Digital (NASDAQ: WDC), and Seagate Technology (NASDAQ: STX).
"Having worked down excessive optimism as well as pessimism, we think MU and SNDK are primed for a breakout to the upside," Rajkumar noted, pointing to major tech conferences next week as the key near-term catalyst.
Lynx is watching three specific clusters of presentations next week to validate the thesis:
AI Supply-Chain Color: Keynotes from Nvidia (NASDAQ: NVDA), Broadcom (NASDAQ: AVGO), and Google Cloud (NASDAQ: GOOGL) for updates on severe memory shortages.
Storage Demand Outlooks: Commentary from SanDisk, Seagate, and Western Digital regarding multi-year demand durability.
Capital Equipment Timelines: Guidance from equipment makers Lam Research (NASDAQ: LRCX), Applied Materials (NASDAQ: AMAT), and ASML (NASDAQ: ASML) on capacity expansion timelines.
The Bottom Line
Near-term risks center on these upcoming executive presentations. Strong commentary confirming persistent AI-driven memory shortages could instantly trigger the breakout Lynx envisions. Conversely, any hint of demand softening or accelerated capacity expansion could delay the thesis.
