Kratos Defense & Security Solutions (NASDAQ: KTOS) and GE Aerospace (NYSE: GE) announced a successful ignition test of the GEK800 turbofan cruise missile propulsion system at Kratos' X-58 test facility, according to a press release dated Sept. 21, 2026.
The GEK800 Serial Number 1 engine ignited successfully during the test, which the companies said initiates a new testing campaign and keeps the program on schedule. The engine has since been designated the F143 by the Department of War, where it is intended for use in long-range, stand-off strike applications.
"The combined Kratos, GE Aerospace, and Government test team has demonstrated exceptional focus, discipline, and schedule execution," said Chris Rawlings, Vice President of Kratos' Defense Engine Portfolio.
"With this latest milestone, the GEK800 engine continues to demonstrate strong performance and durability," said Jorge Perez, General Manager of Edison Works Advanced Combat Engines at GE Aerospace.
Stacey Rock, President of Kratos' Turbine Technologies Division, said the company is preparing for large-volume production of the GEK800 to support advanced cruise missile systems.
The companies stated the engine is designed to meet Department of War requirements while lowering lifecycle costs for defense prime contractors.
