IQM quantum computer launches at italian supercomputing center
IQM Quantum Computers launched its 54-qubit Radiance quantum computer at the CINECA supercomputing center in Bologna, Italy. The system, named NOX, is being integrated with Leonardo, one of the world's fastest supercomputers, to support hybrid classical-quantum computing workflows.
The installation represents the second IQM quantum computer operational in Italy and the first on-premises superconducting quantum computer at CINECA. The Italian Research Centre on High Performance Computing, Big Data, and Quantum Computing inaugurated the system to enable applications in optimization, simulation, and machine learning.
"This installation is what Production Quantum means to us. Quantum computers you own, operate, and build value on," said Sylwia de Weydenthal, Chief Commercial Officer of IQM Quantum Computers.
The deployment is part of Italy's national infrastructure investment through the Ministry of University and Research, CINECA, and ICSC, with support from EuroHPC. Italian Minister of University and Research Anna Maria Bernini said the infrastructure provides universities and research institutions with computing tools for scientific and economic challenges.
IQM operates on-premises systems at four of the world's top ten supercomputing centers and has sold 23 quantum computers globally, according to the company. The Finland-based company employs over 400 people and operates across Europe, Asia, and North America.
IQM announced an ongoing business combination with Real Asset Acquisition Corp (NASDAQ: RAAQ), which will result in the company becoming public in mid-2026.
