IMPLANET partners with 8i Robotics for spine surgery robot evaluation

IMPLANET (Euronext Growth: ALIMP), a medical technology company specializing in orthopedic surgery implants, announced a partnership agreement with 8i Robotics Inc. to conduct clinical evaluation of a surgeon-supervised robotic system for spine surgery.

The partnership focuses on clinical research aimed at achieving European regulatory compliance for the robotic system. IMPLANET will participate in the clinical evaluation and regulatory registration process in Europe for what the companies describe as a multi-arm surgical robot.

"The signing of this partnership agreement with 8i Robotics Inc., a Canadian manufacturer and innovative player in the field of robotics, places IMPLANET at the core of clinical evaluation and regulatory registration in Europe of a world unique robotic solution," stated Ludovic Lastennet, IMPLANET's Chief Executive Officer.

The 8i Robotics system features three robotic arms that work together: an optical imaging head with integrated digital microscope and left and right surgical arms. The system includes an integrated surgical microscope that provides high-resolution visualization with optical magnification.

"The 8i Robotics solution delivers precise implant placement while minimizing complications by enabling accurate navigation to the surgical site," said Dr. Brent Bailey, Systems Engineer at 8i Robotics.

The partnership will enable research with French hospitals and preparation for CE mark approval of the robotic solution in Europe. 8i Robotics unveiled its multi-arm robotic systems for neurosurgical spine and orthopedic surgery in May 2024. The device is not currently available for sale in Canada, the United States, or Europe pending regulatory clearances.

IMPLANET employs 46 people and generated €9.4 million in consolidated revenue in 2024, according to the company statement.
