Hassett optimistic about shutdown resolution this week
Investing.com -- National Economic Council Director Kevin Hassett said Monday he believes the government shutdown will likely end this week, but warned the White House is prepared to take stronger measures if necessary.
Speaking on CNBC, Hassett expressed optimism about resolving the impasse, saying "There’s cracks in the Schumer armor. I think the Schumer Shutdown is likely to end sometime this week."
Hassett placed responsibility for ending the shutdown on the Senate, referring to Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer. He added that if progress isn’t made, "the White House is gonna have to look very closely... at stronger measures that we can bring them to the table."
During the same interview, Hassett mentioned that Scott Bessent "is going to land this plane" regarding China relations. He indicated that Bessent’s meetings on China would help clear up misunderstandings, according to CNBC.
The government shutdown has been ongoing as lawmakers struggle to reach agreement on funding legislation.
