Graphite One signs engineering deal for Ohio graphite facility

Graphite One Inc. (TSXV: GPH) (OTCQX: GPHOF) announced it has executed an engineering contract with an unnamed anode production facility engineering firm to support detailed design of its planned Active Anode Materials facility in Conneaut, Ohio.

The company signed the engineering contract on June 16, 2026. The engagement is intended to support equipment integration, construction readiness, and manufacturing system optimization at the Ohio facility.

In May 2026, Graphite One secured an industrial site in Conneaut through an agreement with a subsidiary of CN Railway. The site includes direct CN rail access, Great Lakes shipping access, and existing high-capacity electrical service. The company has completed geotechnical drilling at the site and is conducting environmental assessment and permitting activities, with completion targeted for the first quarter of 2027.

Graphite One plans to develop the facility in two phases. Phase 1 targets approximately 10,000 tonnes per year of anode material finishing and blending operations by the fourth quarter of 2027. Phase 2 would expand capacity to 25,000 tonnes per year of synthetic graphite and graphitization output by the fourth quarter of 2028.

The company said Phase 1 operations are expected to create 30 to 40 permanent jobs, with Phase 2 adding approximately 100 to 120 additional positions in Ashtabula County, Ohio.

Graphite One said it is in discussions with U.S. government agencies regarding potential financial support for the facility's construction. Development activities remain subject to lease finalization, project financing, permitting, power agreements, equipment procurement, and regulatory approvals.

The company is also advancing permitting at its Graphite Creek mining project in Alaska under the federal FAST-41 expedited permitting program, and has delivered anode material samples to electric vehicle manufacturers and battery companies for testing.

According to S&P Global Mobility data cited in the press release, North American battery graphite demand is projected to grow from approximately 56,000 tonnes in 2023 to over 620,000 tonnes by 2030.
