GSK terminates collaboration with Alector after trial failures

July 8, 2026 4:13 PM EDT

Alector Inc. (NASDAQ: ALEC) disclosed that GlaxoSmithKline unit Glaxo Wellcome UK Limited has moved to terminate its collaboration and license agreement with the company, following the failure of two clinical trials.

GSK provided written notice of termination on July 6, 2026. Under the agreement's terms, the termination becomes effective 180 days from that notice, on January 2, 2027.

The termination follows two clinical setbacks. In October 2025, Alector's Phase 3 INFRONT-3 trial evaluating latozinemab in patients with frontotemporal dementia due to a progranulin gene mutation failed to meet its co-primary clinical endpoint. In April 2026, the company discontinued its Phase 2 PROGRESS-AD trial of nivisnebart in early Alzheimer's disease patients after an interim futility analysis.

Both latozinemab and nivisnebart are investigational progranulin-elevating monoclonal antibodies developed under the collaboration, which was originally established July 1, 2021, and amended in May 2023.

Separately, on July 8, 2026, Alector repaid and terminated its loan agreement with Hercules Capital Inc., which had served as administrative agent. The company repaid $10,428,827.77 in outstanding principal, along with accrued interest, end-of-term charges, and prepayment fees.
