FanDuel plans Alberta launch, pledges $80,000 to local causes
FanDuel, a subsidiary of Flutter Entertainment (NYSE: FLUT; LSE: FLTR), has announced plans to enter the Alberta sports betting and casino market on July 13, pending regulatory approval, according to a company press release.
Alberta residents aged 18 and older can create a FanDuel account ahead of the planned launch date. The platform will offer both sportsbook and casino products.
Alongside the market entry, FanDuel announced two charitable donations in Alberta. The company is contributing $50,000 to the A Dollar A Day Foundation, which funds frontline mental health programs in the province. FanDuel states it has donated a total of $150,000 to the organization over the past three years across Ontario and Alberta. An additional $30,000 will go to the Canada Red Cross Emergency Management Program in Alberta.
FanDuel Canada also announced an exclusive partnership with Light & Wonder to bring the Huff N' Puff casino game franchise to Alberta players, subject to regulatory approval.
The company separately announced a multi-year renewal of its partnership with the Canadian Football League (CFL), expanding the agreement beyond Ontario to include Alberta and adding casino as a new category. The 113th Grey Cup is scheduled for November 15, 2026, at McMahon Stadium in Calgary.
FanDuel Canada is also the title sponsor of the Cowboys Stampede Showdown Charity Poker Tournament, which raised $260,000 for the Calgary Stampede Foundation in 2026, described in the release as a record year for the event. The tournament has raised over $1.3 million for the foundation in total.
"Alberta represents an exciting new chapter for FanDuel Canada," said Dale Hooper, General Manager of FanDuel Canada, adding that the company is "committed to delivering a best-in-class entertainment experience."
