DeFi Technologies Inc. (NASDAQ: DEFT) announced a strategic investment in Canada Stablecorp Inc., the company behind QCAD, a Canadian dollar stablecoin. The partnership aims to develop QCAD-integrated products and expand digital payment infrastructure.
Stablecorp has attracted investments from notable firms including Coinbase Ventures, Circle Ventures, and Side Door Ventures. DeFi Technologies joins these investors as part of the funding round.
The collaboration centers on three areas: product development through DeFi's subsidiary Valour Inc., liquidity provision via Stillman Digital, and development of post-quantum security standards with BTQ Technologies. The companies plan to finalize their roadmap within approximately 60 days of the financing's closing.
Canadian dollar stablecoins are positioned to benefit from regulatory changes, with the Retail Payments Activities Act oversight of payment service providers taking effect September 8, 2025. The Bank of Canada and Financial Consumer Agency of Canada have published research on stablecoin use cases, signaling increased policy attention.
"We were impressed with the vision and capabilities of the DeFi group, and are excited to collaborate on scaling QCAD's utility in the regulated payments space," said Kesem Frank, CEO of Canada Stablecorp.
DeFi Technologies CEO Olivier Roussy Newton stated that "QCAD adds practical Canadian-dollar rails to digital markets. Our collaboration with Stablecorp is about building useful CAD-based products, deepening institutional liquidity, and planning for advanced security as usage grows."
The partnership targets applications in e-commerce, cross-border trade, payroll, and treasury operations, particularly in the Canada-U.S. corridor where annual trade approaches C$1 trillion.
DeFi Technologies trades on NASDAQ under ticker DEFT, CBOE Canada as DEFI, and in Germany as R9B. The company provides institutional access to decentralized finance through various subsidiaries including Valour, Stillman Digital, and Reflexivity Research.
