Caterpillar expands NVIDIA partnership for AI-powered equipment solutions

January 7, 2026 12:05 PM EST

Caterpillar Inc. (NYSE: CAT) announced an expanded collaboration with NVIDIA to integrate artificial intelligence technology across its construction, mining and power equipment operations. The partnership aims to enhance customer solutions and manufacturing systems through AI-powered features.

The collaboration centers on equipping Caterpillar machines with NVIDIA Jetson Thor platform technology, which enables real-time AI processing on construction and mining equipment. The system will support autonomous operations and provide in-cab AI assistance for operators, including personalized insights, real-time coaching and safety alerts.

Caterpillar debuted its Cat AI Assistant at CES 2026, built using NVIDIA Riva speech recognition technology. The voice-activated system will answer equipment questions, provide maintenance recommendations and guide troubleshooting using Caterpillar's Helios data platform.

"As AI moves beyond data to reshape the physical world, it is unlocking new opportunities for innovation — from job sites and factory floors to offices," said Joe Creed, CEO of Caterpillar. "Our collaboration with NVIDIA is accelerating that progress like never before."

Jensen Huang, founder and CEO of NVIDIA, stated, "In the age of AI, NVIDIA and Caterpillar are partnering across the full spectrum — from autonomous construction fleets to the AI data centers powering the next industrial revolution."

The companies plan to transform Caterpillar's manufacturing operations using NVIDIA AI Factory infrastructure and create digital twins of factories using NVIDIA Omniverse technology. These digital replicas will allow teams to design and optimize production processes before physical implementation.

Caterpillar reported $64.8 billion in sales and revenues for 2024 and operates through three primary segments: Construction Industries, Resource Industries, and Power & Energy, with additional financial services.
