Cannabix Technologies launches marijuana breath test device
Cannabix Technologies Inc. (CSE: BLO) (OTCQB: BLOZF) announced the commercial rollout of its Marijuana Breath Test system, which detects delta-9 THC in breath within approximately four hours of cannabis consumption at levels above 5 pg/L.
The Vancouver-based company began delivering MBT units to select commercial customers across multiple industries in March 2026, according to a company statement. The system consists of a handheld Breath Collection Unit and disposable Breath Cartridges that work with laboratory analysis provided by partner Omega Laboratories.
The device addresses what the company describes as limitations of traditional cannabis testing methods like urine, saliva, or hair analysis, which can detect cannabis use days or weeks after consumption. The breath test aims to identify recent use during a shorter detection window that corresponds with the period of peak impairment.
An independent peer-reviewed study published in the Journal of Analytical Toxicology in March 2026 confirmed the MBT system's ability to detect delta-9 THC, the company said.
The business model involves selling the handheld units as hardware while generating recurring revenue through disposable cartridges used for each test. Cannabix has established manufacturing procedures and partnerships, and the Breath Collection Unit passed FCC electronic emissions testing.
Cannabix partnered with Omega Laboratories, which holds federal and international certifications for forensic drug testing. The partnership includes integration of Cannabix breath cartridges into Omega's operational workflows and chain-of-custody processes.
The company also markets AlcoPro distribution services and has prepared training materials and customer support resources for the commercial launch. Target markets include employers, law enforcement agencies, and safety-sensitive industries.
