Bone Biologics expects to complete clinical trial enrollment by year-end
Bone Biologics Corporation (NASDAQ: BBLG, BBLGW) announced that CEO Jeffrey Frelick issued a letter to stockholders outlining the company's progress on its NB1 bone graft product and upcoming milestones.
The company is conducting a pilot clinical study in Australia evaluating NB1, which combines recombinant human protein NELL-1 with demineralized bone matrix. The multicenter study examines two concentrations of NB1 compared to autograft control in up to 30 patients undergoing spinal fusion surgery for degenerative disc disease.
Frelick stated that clinical trial enrollment has been slower than anticipated but expects completion by the end of 2024. The study's primary endpoints include fusion success at 12 and 24 months after surgery and changes in the Oswestry Disability Index.
The company reported product improvements, including extending the protein's shelf life from 12 months to 18 months based on third-party stability studies. Bone Biologics filed a U.S. patent application in June for the proprietary compositions of rhNELL-1 polypeptide and its uses for treating bone conditions.
For the coming year, the company plans to add hospital sites in Australia, extend shelf life to 24 months, develop a more robust potency assay, and provide an interim trial update once all patients reach six-month follow-up.
Bone Biologics completed a public offering on June 30, raising $5 million in gross proceeds. The company expects its current cash position to fund operations into the second quarter of 2026.
The information comes from a stockholder letter issued by the company.
