Boeing Company and Gilat Satellite Networks Ltd. (NASDAQ: GILT) have reached a milestone to offer Gilat's multi-orbit Sidewinder electronically steered antenna as a line-fit solution for in-flight connectivity service providers.
Boeing will offer line-fit Sidewinder terminal installation through in-flight connectivity integration partners to accelerate adoption of inflight broadband connectivity. The compact antenna architecture is designed to simplify installation and reduce long-term maintenance compared to retrofit programs.
The Sidewinder system uses an open model without lock-in requirements, allowing airlines to enhance onboard services while handling connectivity demand. The solution eliminates costs and downtime associated with retrofit installations by enabling integration during aircraft manufacturing.
"Partnering with Boeing for this line-fit program is a true honor and reflects our focus on bringing advanced connectivity solutions to the aviation market," said Ron Levin, President of Gilat's Commercial Division. "Sidewinder stands out as the industry's leading multi-orbit ESA terminal, and we are proud to be certifying it for line-fit for IFC Service Providers."
Gilat Satellite Networks develops satellite-based broadband communications technology and has operated for over 35 years. The company provides connectivity solutions across commercial and defense applications through its subsidiaries including Gilat Wavestream, Gilat DataPath, and Gilat Stellar Blu.
The announcement was made in a press release from the company based in Petah Tikva, Israel.
