Investing.com -- U.K. antitrust regulators have launched a formal investigation into Boeing (NYSE: BA)’s planned $4.7 billion acquisition of Spirit AeroSystems (NYSE: SPR), potentially delaying or derailing the deal.
A decision on whether to escalate to a more in-depth probe is expected by August 28.
Boeing announced in July 2024 that it would reacquire Spirit AeroSystems through a $4.7 billion all-stock deal, aiming to streamline operations and enhance quality.
The agreement covers most of Spirit’s Boeing-linked commercial business, as well as its defense and aftermarket segments.
However, the U.K.’s Competition and Markets Authority said last week that it was reviewing whether the transaction may harm competition in the U.K. or other markets.
