Beta Technologies, Inc. (NYSE: BETA) and the Multistate Collaborative eIPP National Integration Complex announced the completion of the first electric conventional takeoff and landing aircraft flights conducted under the U.S. Department of Transportation and FAA's eVTOL Integration Pilot Program (eIPP).

The flights, conducted in partnership with the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation, the Virginia Department of Aviation, and the Maryland Aviation Administration, covered approximately 275 nautical miles across a multistate corridor. The aircraft flew between four airports: Virginia Tech/Montgomery Executive Airport in Blacksburg, Virginia; Charlottesville-Albemarle Airport in Charlottesville, Virginia; Frederick Municipal Airport in Frederick, Maryland; and Martin State Airport in Baltimore County, Maryland.

The flights carried manufactured organs being developed by United Therapeutics Corporation (Nasdaq: UTHR). Beta and United Therapeutics have an existing partnership to develop and operate electric aircraft for delivering manufactured organ products when they become commercially available.

"United Therapeutics contracted BETA to build an electric aircraft capable of delivering lifesaving cargo, and today we delivered on that agreement," said Kyle Clark, founder and CEO of Beta Technologies. He added that the company has flown its aircraft over 160,000 nautical miles and built charging infrastructure across 123 sites in the United States and Canada.

United Therapeutics CEO Martine Rothblatt said the company requires thousands of organ delivery flights per day to support its mission of manufacturing transplantable organs, noting recent FDA approvals of clinical trials and a lung device.

Beta was previously selected to participate in seven of the FAA's eight eIPP launch programs. The eIPP was established to accelerate the safe integration of Advanced Air Mobility aircraft through operational demonstrations involving manufacturers, operators, state and local governments, airports, and federal agencies.

The Pennsylvania-Virginia-Maryland campaign is described as the first in a series of use cases planned to reach at least 26 states. Future operational campaigns are intended to generate data and establish frameworks for Advanced Air Mobility operations in healthcare, cargo, defense, and other missions.
