Azenta, Inc. (Nasdaq: AZTA) announced that John Marotta has resigned as president, CEO, and director, and that board member Dr. Martin Madaus has been appointed interim president and CEO, according to a company press release dated Aug. 24, 2026.
Dr. Madaus has served on the Azenta board since 2024 and is a Senior Operating Executive at the Carlyle Group Inc. (Nasdaq: CG). He has previously held CEO roles at Millipore Corporation, Ortho-Clinical Diagnostics, and Roche Diagnostics North America.
The company said it has retained search firm Heidrick & Struggles to conduct a permanent CEO search.
Azenta reaffirmed its previously issued fourth quarter fiscal 2026 total revenue guidance, which was originally announced on Aug. 4, 2026. The company said it now expects a one-time consulting expense of approximately $3 million to be recorded in the fourth quarter, which will affect adjusted EBITDA. Excluding that charge, the company said it would also be reaffirming its adjusted EBITDA guidance.
Frank E. Casal, chairman of the Azenta board, said the company's "focus remains on executing our long-range strategic plan to drive profitable, sustainable value creation."
Dr. Madaus currently also serves as chair of the board of Repligen Corporation and as a director at Haemonetics Corporation (NYSE: HAE).
