AvalonBay Communities (NYSE: AVB) and Equity Residential (NYSE: EQR) announced that their combined company, formed through a planned merger of equals, will be named Vivmark Residential, with an expected NYSE ticker symbol of VMRK.
According to a press release from the companies, the combined entity would carry a pro forma equity market capitalization of approximately $53 billion and an enterprise value of approximately $71 billion. The combined portfolio would include more than 180,000 rental apartments and over 10,000 units under construction.
Benjamin Schall, Chief Executive Officer of AvalonBay Communities and incoming CEO of Vivmark Residential, said: "The name Vivmark Residential reflects what we are building — a company determined to set a new standard for the experience of home."
The companies said the name Vivmark draws on two elements: "viv," derived from the Latin "vivere," meaning to live fully, and "mark," intended to reflect quality and distinction.
Additional brand elements, including a logo and visual identity, are expected to be revealed in the coming weeks. The companies stated that the new name will not result in community name changes at closing.
The merger remains subject to shareholder approval from both companies and other customary closing conditions. Until the transaction closes, AvalonBay and Equity Residential will continue to operate as separate, independent companies under their respective NYSE ticker symbols.
