Automakers urge Trump administration to extend USMCA trade deal
Investing.com -- Major automakers, including General Motors, Tesla, Toyota Motor, and Ford, have called on the Trump administration to extend the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA), describing it as crucial to American auto production.
The companies submitted their comments to the U.S. Trade Representative’s Office ahead of the formal review of the trade agreement scheduled for 2026. While supporting the extension, all automakers suggested modifications to the current agreement.
A group representing the Detroit Three automakers stated that USMCA "enables automakers operating in the U.S. to compete globally through regional integration, which delivers efficiency gains." The group added that the agreement accounts "for tens of billions of dollars in annual savings."
The USMCA replaced the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) and has been a key framework for automotive manufacturing and trade across the three countries.
