Arizona Sonoran and Nuton to discuss early joint venture termination
Arizona Sonoran Copper Company Inc. (TSX: ASCU) announced that it and Nuton LLC, a Rio Tinto venture, have agreed to begin discussions in January regarding an early termination of their option to joint venture agreement on the Cactus Project.
The companies reached the decision following preliminary consultation and described the planned discussions as aimed at achieving an "amicable early termination" of their existing agreement.
Arizona Sonoran stated it will continue developing the Cactus Project independently. The company plans to proceed with a standalone Definitive Feasibility Study, targeting completion in the second half of 2026, with a potential final investment decision as early as the fourth quarter of 2026.
The copper exploration and development company recently completed a positive standalone Pre-Feasibility Study for the project. Arizona Sonoran said it will also advance permitting amendments, project financing work, and early development activities.
The company indicated it would not provide further updates on the Nuton discussions until reaching a definitive outcome. Arizona Sonoran noted there is no certainty regarding the duration of negotiations or whether they will result in a mutually satisfactory agreement.
The Cactus Project is located in Arizona and contains what the company describes as a large-scale porphyry copper resource on privately held land. Arizona Sonoran holds a 100% interest in the brownfield project.
The information was disclosed in a press release statement from Arizona Sonoran Copper Company.
