Investing.com -- Technology giant Apple on Monday introduced the next generation of its artificial intelligence platform on Monday, featuring an updated Siri digital assistant as the company works to compete with other Silicon Valley companies in the AI market.
The new Apple Intelligence system uses Alphabet Inc Class A (NASDAQ: GOOGL) technology and will better understand the context of user requests, software chief Craig Federighi said during a keynote presentation at the company's Worldwide Developers Conference.
Federighi said the new software updates would focus on three areas: AI, performance improvements and security. The upgrades will allow software and photos to load faster. New child safety protections will manage screen time and help prevent children from accessing inappropriate content.
Apple also announced that the next macOS for its Mac computer lineup will be called Golden Gate.
The company also made changes to its Liquid Glass design, which launched last year. A slider will now allow users to adjust the magnitude of the effect. Some customers had reported that text can be difficult to read with Liquid Glass.
The company first introduced the Apple Intelligence platform two years ago, but many features were slow to launch or did not match competing products. The updated Siri will include a standalone app and a more chatbot-like interface. Apple first released Siri in 2011.
