Algonquin Power & Utilities Corp. (TSX/NYSE: AQN) announced the appointment of Robert J. Stefani as chief financial officer, effective January 5, 2026, according to a company statement.

Stefani joins from Southwest Gas Holdings Inc. (NYSE: SWX), where he served as senior vice president and chief financial officer for three years. At Southwest Gas Holdings, he managed the $1.5 billion divestiture of the MountainWest pipeline and oversaw the initial public offering of utility infrastructure services business Centuri Holdings Inc. Prior to Southwest Gas, Stefani spent four years as senior vice president, chief financial officer and treasurer at PECO Energy, an Exelon Corp. (NASDAQ: EXC) subsidiary, where he managed nearly $2 billion in annual capital and operations budgets. Earlier in his career, he held corporate development and merger roles at Exelon, including involvement in the $6.8 billion acquisition of Pepco Holdings.

Stefani's background includes strategic investment positions at Caterpillar Inc. (NYSE: CAT) and investment banking roles at Marathon Capital and Citigroup (NYSE: C). He began his career as a U.S. Navy officer and holds a business administration degree from the University of Notre Dame and an MBA from the University of Texas at Austin.

"Rob brings an exceptional blend of financial discipline, capital markets expertise, and strategic leadership to Algonquin," said Rod West, chief executive officer.

Brian Chin will continue as interim chief financial officer until January 5, 2026, and will remain with the company as an investor-facing leader following the transition.

Algonquin Power & Utilities operates as a diversified international utility serving over one million customer connections primarily in the United States and Canada.
