Ahold Delhaize USA to build $860M distribution center in Burlington, N.C.

Ahold Delhaize USA (OTC: AHODF) announced plans to construct an $860 million distribution center in Burlington, N.C., through its distribution and transportation subsidiaries ADUSA Distribution and ADUSA Transportation.

The facility will add over 1 million square feet of distribution infrastructure to serve the company's East Coast grocery brands, including Food Lion stores in North Carolina. Construction is expected to begin in 2026, with operations starting in 2029.

The distribution center is projected to employ over 500 associates and will utilize supply chain automation technology. The facility will handle fresh and frozen grocery items for Food Lion stores.

"The investment into this facility is an investment into the customers who trust our brands to nourish their families," said JJ Fleeman, Chief Executive Officer for Ahold Delhaize USA. "Through the new distribution center, ADUSA Distribution and ADUSA Transportation will expand their capacity to support Food Lion's growth in the state, along with bringing new jobs."

The new Burlington facility will join three existing distribution centers operated by ADUSA Distribution and ADUSA Transportation in North Carolina, located in Salisbury, Butner, and Dunn.

Ahold Delhaize USA operates five grocery brands on the East Coast: Food Lion, The GIANT Company, Giant Food, Hannaford and Stop & Shop. The company's supply chain network operates more than 8,000 assets and logs approximately 125 million miles annually.

Food Lion has reported more than 50 consecutive quarters of same store sales growth, according to the company statement.
