ASUR reports mixed passenger traffic growth across regions in August
Grupo Aeroportuario del Sureste (NYSE: ASR; BMV: ASUR) reported total passenger traffic of 6.0 million in August 2025, representing a 0.6% increase compared to August 2024, according to a company statement.
The airport operator experienced varied performance across its three operating regions. Puerto Rico showed the strongest growth with passenger traffic increasing 4.6% year-over-year to 1.2 million passengers. Colombia followed with 2.7% growth, reaching 1.5 million passengers. Mexico recorded a 1.6% decline to 3.3 million passengers.
In Puerto Rico, international traffic surged 13.7% while domestic travel grew 3.3%. Colombia's international traffic increased 12.8%, though domestic traffic fell 3.3%. Mexico saw decreases in both segments, with international traffic down 0.4% and domestic traffic declining 2.6%.
For the year-to-date period through August, total passenger traffic reached 48.9 million, up 0.3% from the same period in 2024. Puerto Rico led with 5.2% growth, Colombia increased 3.4%, while Mexico declined 2.5%.
ASUR operates 16 airports across the Americas, including nine in southeast Mexico, six in northern Colombia, and holds a 60% stake in the operator of San Juan's Luis Muñoz Marín International Airport in Puerto Rico. The company's flagship Cancun Airport handled 2.3 million passengers in August, down 3.1% from the previous year.
