Shares of BioCryst Pharma (Nasdaq: BCRX) are continuing higher Monday morning as traders are getting word of a World Health Organization report from last week which indicated a new variation of the 2009 A(H1N1) flu virus has now emerged in Australia and Singapore.

BioCryst shares were up about 7.6 percent on Friday; shares are adding another 13 percent to the move higher this morning. The stock last traded at $4.02.

The WHO report said the latest strain has a genetic twist which helps to resist GlaxoSmithKline's (NYSE: GSK) Relenza and Roche's Tamiflu.

Adding to upside Monday, Rodman & Renshaw issued a research note earlier suggesting BioCryst's peramivir "appears to retain activity against a novel straight of A(H1N1) influenza.”
