Analysts at Goldman Sachs are calling the pricing of Research In Motion's (Nasdaq: RIMM) BlackBerry PlayBook tablet "higher than expected."

Yesterday, RIM announced price points of PlayBook at $499 for 16GB, $599 for 32GB and $699 for 64GB. The device will ship April 19.

The company had contended throughout production that the PlayBook would be competitively priced with the current tablet standard, Apple Inc.'s (NASDAQ: AAPL) iPad 2

"We view the price as higher than expected given 32G versions from competitors are priced equivalently but for 10” tablets vs. RIM’s 7". Moreover, RIM’s WiFi version will only be able to connect to corporate email by tethering to a BlackBerry smartphone, thus limiting the enterprise use case to its installed base."

Shares of RIM are down 1 percent today to $61.77. The company reports earnings tomorrow.
