Analyst at Jefferies commented on speculation that Apple (Nasdaq: AAPL) iPad numbers could come in light following the disclosure in the recent Samsung lawsuit.

The firm notes: "The complaint filed by Apple against Samsung implies 18.1M iPhones were sold in CQ1 (JEF 16.0, St 16.3M) and 4.2M iPads (JEF 7.0M, St 6.3M), but we do not think the iPad numbers in the complaint include iPad 2."

The complaint discloses that the total iPhones sold before CQ1 is 89.97M units, implying a minimum of 18.1M iPhones sold in CQ1.

Total iPads sold before CQ1 is 14.8M units, implying a minimum of 4.2M iPads sold in CQ1, but we believe this only refers to the original iPad. Given iPad 2 went on sale on March 11, we believe they sold 2M to 3M iPad 2s in the first two weeks. which implies a 6.2M to 7.2M iPad number with the midpoint below our 7M estimate.

Net/Net "we expects CQ1 iPad shipments inline with consensus and see possible upside to iPhone shipments. We expect CQ2 guidance below consensus and GM pressure due to Japan, but we believe this is priced into the stock and reiterate our Buy."
