JPMorgan analyst Rajat Gupta downgraded Group 1 Automotive Inc. (NYSE: GPI) from Overweight to Neutral with a price target of $415.00 (from $435.00).
The analyst comments: "Execution has remained solid for several years, with favorable Texas exposure serving as a relative tailwind. However, the heavy concentration in one state introduces potential for increased volatility, as regional economic conditions could significantly impact growth. GPI's Parts & Services initiatives to boost technician headcount and optimize existing manpower are compelling, with substantial contributions to the bottom line. However, incremental growth from these initiatives may become more challenging as competitive pressures intensify and car parc dynamics turn unfavorable. EBITDA growth, balance sheet flexibility, and standing ROIC are consistent with group averages, justifying a premium multiple compared to the historical 15-20% discount."
