Global Equities' Chowdhry Offers Quick Takeaways Following Tesla (TSLA) Press Conference

Tesla (NASDAQ: TSLA) analyst Trip Chowdhry of Global Equities Research had some quick takeaways from today's press confrence:

His Key Message:

• Tesla addressed the range anxiety with Software Applications, on version 6.2, which is good, but .....
• ...It would have been much better, had Tesla addressed the range anxiety with some fundamental technological advances in Battery technologies etc....
• Version 7 of Software update, which comes in 3 months, seems compelling
• Tesla is Gagetizing the Auto Industry

Version 6.2 update with Range Applications

• Tesla currently fixes the range anxiety with two Software Applications, which was released with Tesla Software 6.2 update:
  • Range Assurance Application:
    • In realtime, by monitoring the various parameters, such as road gradient, wind speed, traffic conditions etc, can warn the Tesla Car if it is getting out of range of the SuperCharger
  • Trip Planner Application:
    • Tesla user can enter the start and destination into the Trip Planner Application, the application gives a route that is optimized for Range by factoring in the location of SuperChargers
  • These applications take out the complexity from planning a road trip on Tesla cars
• Tesla Version 7.0 will come out in about 3 months from now:
  • Will have Auto Steering feature - i.e. ability to self drive on Highways and Private roads on low speeds
  • Valet mode: Will have the ability to summon the car from the garage and summon it back to the garage. This will only be enabled on private roads
  • Currently, Tesla is doing tests of Auto Steering from San Francisco to Seattle, and the car can literally self drive on the Highway
• Miscellaneous Comments on the call:
  • Tesla Sales in Australia is strong
  • Tesla will continue to expand its SuperCharger networks in North America, Europe, China, Japan and Australia, so that most of the population is within the SuperCharger Range
  • Tesla Model X will come in Summer, will have some features, that Tesla has not yet talked about
