Although shares of CVS Caremark Corporation (NYSE: CVS) are closing in on all time highs, the stock still has room to grow, in the view of analysts at Goldman Sachs. At a recent meeting, CVS management discussed its business prospects. The conversation, in the words of analyst Matthew J. Fassler, "left us sober on the industry outlook, impressed with the firm's distinctive positioning and efforts."
Fassler said he expects growing profits from generics to spur margin expansion across the sector next year. He also thinks CVS continues to gaining share in the wake of a dispute earlier this year between Walgreen Co. (NYSE: WAG) and Express Scripts (Nasdaq: ESRX).
"CVS is gaining script share – even without regard to WAG/ESRX wins – through its powerful loyalty program," said Fassler. "The firm's in-store technology and service efforts, its growing Med-D presence, and its ability to leverage its dual-effort at retail and in the PBM space position CVS to gain share, especially as the population ages."
Goldman Sachs has a Buy rating on CVS Caremark (NYSE: CVS) with an updated price target of $54.00 (from $53.00).
