BofA/Merrill Lynch Reports 1st Inflows To Single Stocks Since February

BofA analyst Jill Hall tracks equity fund flows and reports to clients Tuesday morning that she has just seen the first weekly inflow of capital into single stocks since February.
(emphasis Street Insider) "As the S&P 500 shrugged off a below-consensus jobs report and climbed 1.0% to another new high last week, BofAML clients were net buyers of US equities for the first time in in four weeks. In addition to ETFs, net buys of $1.0bn were comprised chiefly of single stocks—the first week of single stock buying since February. In a reversal from recent weeks, net buying was entirely driven by institutional clients, breaking a 15-week selling streak by this group. This was the biggest week of net buys since Jan. 2016. Hedge funds and private clients were net sellers for the second and third consecutive weeks, respectively."
A cumulative chart of flows by client type (Hedge Fund, Institutional and Private Client) since 2008 shows that private clients have been ticking upward with flows while institutions keep dropping:
Zooming in for YTD in 2017 it is apparent that Private clients have stagnated buying since January and just recently institutional clients have started buying stocks which put an end to a 15 week selling spree:
The buying from BofA clients was spread across seven of eleven sectors last week with the majority focused within Cons. Discretionary, Health Care and Financials:
