Jefferies sees AI trading tools boosting market volumes
Investing.com -- Jefferies released a report on Monday detailing recent developments in AI-agent trading tools across major brokerage platforms, noting continued expansion of features and supported asset classes since the firm's initial analysis in June.
Interactive Brokers introduced autonomous trading on October 21, allowing users to create dedicated AI partitions within existing accounts that can execute trades without manual approval. The feature supports 75,000 global stocks, options and ETFs.
Robinhood launched Agent Apps in September, enabling users to subscribe their AI agents to institutional data feeds from Nasdaq, SpotGamma, and Token Terminal. The platform expanded its offering from equities-only support to include options in August and cryptocurrency.
E*Trade's Model Context Protocol connectors launched on October 8, allowing users to link live brokerage accounts to third-party AI models. Schwab began slowly rolling out its conversational agent in October, supporting quotes, market information, watchlist management and research tool access.
Coinbase added support for U.S. stocks and ETFs in September after previously offering only spot crypto and derivatives trading. The platform added index and crypto perpetuals in October.
Interactive Brokers expanded its LLM support from three initial models to any LLM built on the MCP standard in July. Nasdaq launched an Agentic AI operating environment within Calypso in September to connect AI agents across capital market and treasury workflows.
Robinhood reported that over 150,000 customers opened agentic trading accounts as of September 29, with agents using the platform's tools nearly 30 million times daily. Coinbase stated that 99% of all agentic stablecoin transaction volumes occurred on its Base network as of the second quarter.
Schwab announced it is testing MCP-based AI trading tools with one LLM provider, with a consumer launch supporting multiple LLMs expected in coming months. Tastytrade plans to offer fully autonomous Agentic AI that will assess proprietary datasets and execute multi-asset trading strategies.
