Ackman's Pershing Square's New Stake is Agilent Technologies (A)

In an amended 13F filing with the SEC, Bill Ackman's Pershing Square Capital hedge fund disclosed a new stake in Agilent Technologies (NYSE: A).

The firm owned 2,916,103 shares at the end of September.

Mr. Ackman said in early November that the fund has a new, undisclosed position which encompasses 8%-9.5% of the portfolio.

Since Ackman mentioned the new stake, speculation has swirled about who the target is. At least three names were rumored, but all proved wrong: Yum! Brands (NYSE: YUM), Neflix (NASDAQ: NFLX) and FedEx (NYSE: FDX).

This marks the second time the fund announced a new position this year - the first was Berkshire Hathaway (NYSE: BRK-b) earlier in the year.

After suffering large, public losses with his Valent investment a couple years back, Ackman has been on an under-the-radar comeback with big winners like Chipotle (NYSE: CMG), Hilton (NYSE: HLT), and others. It is clear that he has his stock-picking mojo back and many were waiting with bated breath for the new position.

Shares of Agilent rose 3.5% after-hours on the news.
