Sony's (NYSE: SNE) effort to win back gamers is paying off.
After reporting a strong start for PlayStation 4 pre-orders on Amazon.com (Nasdaq: AMZN), it appears that demand might be too strong. Engadget pointed out today that Amazon has begun to sell two versions of the PS4: Launch and Standard Editions. As of this writing, Standard Editions are still available, but the Launch version is sold out.
Micrsoft's (Nasdaq: MSFT) Xbox One is still available on Amazon. No worries there.
Amazon has a limited supply of PS4's available, thus cleaving the console into two categories. The Launch Edition guarantees that you'll receive your console, well, at launch. Should Amazon receive more PS4 units, maybe some of the Standard Edition purchasers will be converted over.
