Microsoft's (MSFT) Effort to Kill Off the Xbox One Pushes Ahead... (SNE)

Oh, you want a Microsoft (Nasdaq: MSFT) Xbox One and don't have a connection? Too bad.

Wait, there is a solution. President of the Interactive Entertainment Business at Microsoft Don Mattrick commented on Tuesday that if you don't have an Internet connection, you will simply have to purchase an Xbox 360. There's just a slight hint of arrogance behind the comment, something Microsoft doesn't need at this point.

The video is below and many are suggesting that the segment shouldn't have been aired on Spike TV. This video comes following stronger pre-order sales numbers for Sony's (NYSE: SNE) PlayStation 4 from numerous Amazon.com (Nasdaq: AMZN) sites. The PS4 was the initial pre-order leader in the U.S., Germany, Britain, Italy, and Spain. On Amazon.fr (France), PS4 was number two, while the Xbox One was number six, so a win there as well. The sample is from just one online store, but Amazon is a well-know seller which regularly updates its metrics.

As previously mentioned, much sentiment is behind the PS4 given that it's more powerful, doesn't need an Internet connection, can play older games, and is $100 cheaper. Microsoft might be banking on the "sticky" factor of Xbox Live for this one and the only other edge anyone sees is its release at the end of November, versus end of December for PS4.
