Marvell's (Nasdaq: MRVL) position in handset and smart television apps will play a big role for the company in FY13.
According to Digitimes, citing Marvell's Greater China Business VP Chris Chang, Marvell has laid-out a blueprint for its handset-IC business. The move comes following Marvell's acquisition of Intel's (Nasdaq: INTC) cellular communications and applications processor (AP) business in 2006. Chang noted that Marvell has gained notable market share in handset baseband and APs with CAGR of as much as 49 percent since 2005.
For smart TVs, Chang said that the Company's ARM Holdings (Nasdaq: ARMH)-based SoC has attractd business from companies like ASUStek, Sony (NYSE: SNE), Lenovo, and others.
Marvell had also expanded its R&D workforce in China to 2,500 employees. Staff in China and Taiwan now account for about 40 percent of Marvell's total.
