Google (GOOG) in Focus as Current Concessions Said Too Weak for EU

Google (Nasdaq: GOOG) is strong out of the gate amid more pressure hitting the company from Europe.

Reuters points out that European Union (EU) Competition Commissioner Joaquin Almunia is looking for more concessions from Google following a three-year investigation into whether or not the search giant "squeezed out" rivals. Almunia is making the move in response to some criticism that Google's current concessions are inadequate.

Last month, Google offered to label its own products in search results and also make it easier to advertisers to use other search platforms.

Complainants, including large rival Microsoft (Nasdaq: MSFT), have until June 27th to submit responses following review of current concessions

Google might also work towards a complete settlement, which could include no infringement hearing or fines.

Shares of Google are up 2 percent Tuesday.
