Yahoo (YHOO) and Apple (AAPL) in Talks for Deeper iPhone Relationship - Reports

April 9, 2013 7:33 PM EDT
Shares of Yahoo, Inc. (NASDAQ: YHOO) are trading 1 percent higher after-hours Tuesday following late reports from the Wall Street Journal that the company is in talks with Apple (NASDAQ: AAPL) about a deeper iPhone relationship.

While Yahoo already provides content to the iPhone with Yahoo! Finance and Yahoo's weather pre-loaded on the device, the two are now discussing broadening the relationship to included content from Yahoo Sports, Yahoo News and other web properties. Integration with Apple's voice assistant service Siri is also a highlight of a possible deal.

The two parties could also be discussing an expanded Yahoo! search presence as Apple moves to be less reliant on Google (NASDAQ: GOOG). While possible this appears to be a long shot given Yahoo! search results are powered by Microsoft's (NASDAQ: MSFT) Bing and Apple has a deal with Google for search.

Although talks are ongoing, a deal is not imminent the Journal said. Both companies declined to comment on the report.

Shares of Yahoo last traded at $24.07 after-hours, up 1% and representing a new 52-week high.
