Solar stocks are higher once again today, possibly on news that a Beijing-based renewable-energy producer acquired a U.S.-based panel maker.
Reports have Hanergy Holding Group moving to acquire MiaSole, Inc., in an effort to increase solar capacity in anticipation of a revival in the segment. MiaSole is backed by ArcelorMittal (NYSE: MT) and Kleiner Perkins.
Financial terms weren't disclosed.
Hanergy Chairman Li Hejun said that the company expects a rebound in the sector toward the latter half of 2013.
The acquisition might put Hanergy on par with First Solar (Nasdaq: FSLR) in terms of thin-film panel production. Thin-film panels are made via the placement of photovoltaic material being placed on a semiconductor wafer.
Shares on the move higher today include Trina Solar (NYSE: TSL), Yingli Green Energy (NYSE: YGE), LDK Solar (NYSE: LDK), JA Solar (Nasdaq: JASO), and JinkoSolar (NYSE: JKS), among others.
