The following is a list of stocks crossing the 50-day simple moving average (SMA) and are either above or below the metric. The 50-day is considered an indicator of a potential near-term trend formation.

Crossing and above:
  • Best Buy Co. Inc. (NYSE: BBY) - up 3.4 percent. Director Matt Paull disclosed buying about 6,500 shares of Best Buy on October 2nd at an average price of 16.8898, or gross transaction value of $109,700.

  • Peabody Energy Corp. (NYSE: BTU) - up 4.5 percent. Economic data howing positive nemployment insurance numbers as well as ECB president Mario Draghi girding for some bond buying is pushing miners higher today.

  • Chesapeake (NYSE: CHK) - up 2.3 percent. Shares have been rather flat over the last month or so with some support coming in at $19. Shares are also butting-up against the 20-day today as well.

  • Target (NYSE: TGT) - up 1.1 percent. Target reporting solid comps today with September's read up 2.1 percent versus the 2 percent consensus. For more color, click here.
  • Annaly Capital Management, Inc. (NYSE: NLY) - down 1.3 percent. .
Crossing and below:
  • - down percent. Morgan Stanley downgraded the stock from Equalweight to Underweight this morning.

  • Cell Therapeutics, Inc. (Nasdaq: CTIC) - down 13.6 percent. Announced a convertible preferred offering today to the tune of 40,000 shares.

  • Endo Pharmaceuticals Holdings (Nasdaq: ENDP) - down 2.7 percent. Said it sees fiscal 2013 EPS of $5.20 to $5.40 and sales of $3 billion to $3.2 billion. he Street was looking for sales of $3.23 billion and EPS of $5.51.
