Ford (F) Focus Tops Corolla as World's Best-Selling Car

Ford (NYSE: F) announced today a milestone marking the 350 millionth vehicle produced in the company's 109 year history. At the same time it bragged that its Ford Focus was the best-selling car in the world in the first half of 2012, beating out the Toyota (NYSE: TM) Corolla, which has been top dog for years. According to IHS Automotive, the Ford Focus sold 489,616 units in the first half of this year, while the Coroll, sold only 462,187.
Ford celebrated the victory and the production milestone at its manufacturing facility located in Rayong, Thailand, 120 miles southeast of Bangkok. The $450 million facility is state of the art, and emphasizes Ford's focus on growth in Asia. Ford has plans to launch 9 new plants in the region, 6 in China, 2 in India, and 1 additional facility in Thailand.
Ford has already pumped $6.7 billion into the region, and it isn't difficult to find reasons why. Though 2020, this area will generate 60 percent of the industry's growth. And, Ford, armed with its trusty Focus model, is ready to take its share of the pie.
